1 - Change the power mode on your laptop.

Using the "Power mode" setting in the taskbar is the simplest and quickest approach to significantly extend your battery life. This indicator, which resembles a battery, indicates how much battery life you have remaining.


1. Select the power mode option from the drop-down menu. You should get a pop-up with information about how much battery life is left.

2. Move the slider for power mode to the left. The more you shift it to the left, the greater your battery life will be, but your PC's overall performance will suffer. Keep the slider to the right if you're just going to be using your laptop for a brief period of time. Move it as far to the left as possible if you need to run on electricity all day.


2 - Make your laptop sleep more quickly.

After being left idle for a short period, Windows can assist extend the life of your battery by darkening the screen and automatically putting the laptop to sleep.


You don't want it to go asleep too quickly because that can be irritating. Faster sleep, on the other hand, can help you obtain greater runtime.


1. Type "Sleep" into the Start button's search box. When "Power & sleep settings" comes in the search results, click it.

2. Select how long your laptop should wait before shutting off the screen in the "Screen" section. You can opt to be inactive for as little as one minute.

3. Select a time for the laptop to sleep in the "Sleep" section. You can choose a figure as low as one minute once more.

- If keeping your computer's battery alive is a priority, you should switch off the screen after two minutes and put the laptop to sleep after four or five minutes.


3 - Reduce the screen's brightness.

The single biggest drain on your laptop's battery is keeping the display on. If you need to keep your computer operating, reduce the brightness of the screen as much as feasible.


There are two main techniques to adjust the brightness of your screen:

- Type "screen brightness" into the Start button search box, then select "Change brightness level" when it appears in the search results. Then drag the brightness slider as far to the left as you can safely go in the display settings.

Reduce the brightness of the screen by using the keyboard shortcut. Most laptops assign brightness to a Function key; check for symbols indicating higher and lower brightness on the Function keys.


4 - Turn off Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.

You can save power by turning off your laptop's wireless features if you don't need them. Obviously, you'll need Wi-Fi to connect to the internet, so this is usually a last alternative.


- Click the Wi-Fi icon in the taskbar to temporarily disable Wi-Fi. The Wi-Fi menu should appear, displaying all available Wi-Fi networks. "Wi-Fi" or "Airplane mode" are the options. Both of these will switch off the Wi-Fi radio until you return to this page and turn it back on.

- Type "Bluetooth" in the Start button search box and click "Bluetooth and other device settings" when it comes in the search results to temporarily stop Bluetooth. Then just slide the Bluetooth switch to the left to turn it off. You can come back here later to reactivate it.


5 - Disable any apps that consume a lot of power in the background.

To provide a better user experience, Windows now tries to keep certain apps running in the background, similar to smartphones. Allowing a lot of programmes to operate in the background, on the other hand, might quickly drain your battery. Instead, you can check which apps consume the most power and disable their background functionality.


1. Type "Battery" into the Start button's search box. When "Battery saver settings" comes in the search results, click it.


2. Click "See which apps are hurting your battery" under the battery percentage remaining.


3. Apps will be displayed in order of how much battery they use on Windows. Clear the checkbox labelled "Let Windows decide when this app can run in the background" and then check "Reduce the work the app can do when it's in the background" on the one that's using a lot of power.
