What is the highest rated air mattress - What is the longest lasting air mattress - What is the best mattress to buy in 2022 - What is the most luxurious type of mattress?
For people who like to be prepared for unexpected visitors, sleepovers, unplanned travels, or even camping, an air mattress is a terrific purchase. It's easy to set up and take down, but it's still cosy enough for a good night's sleep.
I've experienced firsthand the value of obtaining a good night's sleep - no matter the circumstances — as a researcher with three years of experience studying sleep, running a sleep lab, and reviewing sleep products. People who get enough sleep have a better mood, have more energy, and are more aware of their environment, which is something we can all appreciate when travelling or staying the night away from home.
Inadequate sleep could affect your guests' social interactions or perhaps destroy their mood for the remainder of the day. As the host, you'll want to provide an entertaining alternative for your guests to help them feel at ease so that they can wake up feeling their best. Nature enthusiasts who need to feel refreshed and ready for their camping trips should do the same.
With this in mind, we put four of the most popular air mattresses to the test, evaluating firmness, comfort, durability, and convenience of use. Below are some helpful hints for caring for and cleaning your air mattress.

2 - The best camping air mattress is:
REI Co-op Kingdom Insulated Sleep System 40 (Queen)
299 $
The REI Co-op Kingdom Insulated Sleep System 40 (Queen) is built of high-quality materials and is incredibly well-insulated, keeping you warm and comfortable while camping.
Pros: Easy-to-use hand pump, warm insulated system, firm, does not deflate throughout the night
Cons: It's quite bulky compared to other camping gear, which may limit how and where you may transport it.
The REI Co-op Kingdom Insulated Sleep System 40 (Queen) is the greatest option for a camping-specific air mattress if you don't want to sacrifice excellent sleep. The purpose of this air mattress is to keep you warm in temperatures as low as 40 degrees. It's made of 100% polyester with an eco-friendly thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) laminate and a polyurethane coating on the bottom for added durability and weather resistance. You won't need to pack a sleeping bag because it comes with a machine-washable mattress cover and top sheet made of polyester. It also includes a 600-pound weight capacity and a hand pump for inflation without the use of electricity.
Although it is devoid of PVC, it does have a minor stench when initially unpacked, which goes away after a few hours of airing out. Because I have very little upper body strength, inflating it with the hand pump was a little tricky, but it wasn't as difficult as I expected and only took 12 minutes to fully inflate (including a couple of breaks between pumping). In the unlikely event that your air mattress takes up your entire tent footprint, the inflation hose is long enough to pump from outside your tent.
On this air mattress, I slept unexpectedly well; it's incredibly comfy and cosy. The quilted mattress cover has a durable water-repellent coating, and the sheets are plush and toasty. The firmness of this air mattress is ideal for optimal spine alignment and a restful night's sleep, even when used outside. When I moved around, it made no noise, and it lost very little air, if any, during the four nights I slept on it. Although the air mattress can be deflated with the hand pump, I found it quicker to open the valves and let it deflate while rolling it up and packing it into the accompanying storage bag.
The rectangular-shaped air mattress is only six inches thick and weighs only 15 pounds, making it a very light air mattress. While this air mattress is light in comparison to others, it is big for camping gear and likely too heavy for hiking and wilderness camping. If you prefer backyard or automobile camping but don't want to sacrifice a decent night's sleep, I recommend investing in this air mattress. It's also useful to have on hand in cases where you don't have access to electricity, such as at a remote lodge.
3 - On a budget, the best air mattress
Intex Pillow Rest Raised Airbed (Queen)
48.50 $
The Intex Pillow Rest Raised Airbed (Queen) is a budget-friendly alternative that nevertheless provides excellent support and relaxation.
Pros: It's comfortable, it's inexpensive, and it's light.
Cons: Low to the ground, built-in cushion bar may be uncomfortable for some, 90-day guarantee, chemical scent takes a few days to disappear, moves a little throughout the night
The Intex Pillow Rest Raised Airbed (Queen) is less than half the price of any other mattress we tested, but it still provides a good sleeping surface for your visitors. This mattress has a built-in pillow bar and is made up of thousands of high-strength polyester fibres that give support and stability. For added comfort, the top is coated in a velvety substance, and the mattress can support up to 600 pounds, allowing two people to sleep on it. It includes an internal electric pump, but it can also be manually inflated using a hand pump of appropriate size.
The mattress comes with simple instructions and inflates with a single button press. It took less than four minutes to spread out and inflate, and I was able to modify the firmness by rotating the dial to my chosen level. My deep pocket sheets did not slip off during the night because of the indentation sides, which are designed to hold sheets in place. The new mattress had a stronger plastic/chemical stench than the previous air mattresses I tested, although it faded after a few days. It weighs around 16 pounds, making it one of the lightest we examined. However, because it is so light, it moved around a lot during the night.
For the first two nights, sleeping on this air mattress was actually rather pleasant. The stiffness is acceptable, and the surface is extremely cushioned. It's 16.5 inches above the ground, which makes it a little more difficult to get in and out of than some of the other models we tested. It had lost a substantial quantity of air by the third night, so I had to re-inflate it. The ambient temperature dropped dramatically the previous night, and even with the sheets on, the air mattress seemed cooler than usual. The built-in pillow rest appears to be a good idea, but it elevates the head too far and is too firm; it does not compare to the comfort of a genuine pillow.
It took less than four minutes to deflate the Intex Pillow Rest Raised Airbed, which also comes with a handy storage bag. Given the budget, this is the greatest alternative for occasional use; it's really comfy for one or two nights; just be sure to have a couple of pillows and an extra blanket for your guests.
4 - The best air mattress with a built-in pump is:
Insta-Bed Raised Air Mattress (Queen)
130 $
The Insta-Bed Raised Air Mattress has two internal pumps that regulate the air pressure during the night so you don't wake up flat on your back on the floor.
Pros: When the air mattress is fully inflated, the pump automatically switches off; the secondary pump ensures that the air mattress remains fully inflated throughout the night.
Cons: This air mattress is larger and heavier than other air mattresses, and the automatic pump makes noise all night.
The top layer of the Insta-Bed Raised Air Mattress (Queen) is made of pierce-resistant PVC, making it water-resistant and very durable. It's made up of 35 circular coils that give a supporting and balanced surface. It can hold up to two people and has a weight restriction of 500 pounds.
The primary built-in pump inflates the mattress to your desired firmness, with three options to choose from: fluffy, medium, or firm. When the air mattress reaches the required level of inflation, the primary pump automatically shuts off. The secondary pump system that checks air levels and silently maintains the air mattress at your selected level of firmness throughout the night is what sets this air mattress apart.
The Insta-Bed Raised Air Mattress was the easiest to set up out of all the air mattresses I tried. All I had to do was unpack it, plug it in, and dial in the firmness level I wanted – I went with medium. The pump is louder than the other air mattresses, but owing to the auto shut-off feature, I was able to leave it alone and wait in another room. It just took about four minutes to inflate entirely.
My sheets fit perfectly on this air mattress, and they didn't slip off during the night. It has a firm, sturdy surface that was also incredibly comfy to sleep on. This air mattress allowed me to sleep soundly without having to worry about it inflating, plus it's raised 19 inches above the ground, making it simple to climb in and out. It is, however, a tad on the heavy side, weighing in at 22 pounds.
When the secondary pump is hooked in, some users may find it inconvenient. I didn't have any issues with it, but if you believe you'll be bothered by a mild buzzing, I recommend sleeping on the opposite side of the pump, or unplugging it totally. Setting the dial to deflate, waiting three minutes for it to totally collapse, folding it, and packing it into the supplied carry bag is the same as inflating the Insta-Bed.
