On October 18, Apple announced the next-generation AirPods at a virtual MacBook event.
The third-generation AirPods ($179) have somewhat shorter stems and do not include the plastic tips found on previous models. They also have Apple's surround sound-like spatial audio functionality, which is also found in the company's AirPods Pro and AirPods Max over-the-ear headphones.
The new AirPods case appears to be slightly wider than prior generations since the earpieces themselves are slightly wider.

In 2016, Apple released the first AirPods, which completely changed the wireless earphone market. According to Counterpoint research, Apple had a market share of 29 percent in the third quarter of 2020, which was three times that of its closest competitor, Xiaomi.
Price of Apple AirPods 3
The AirPods (3rd Gen) are now available for $179 from Apple, Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, and other stores. However, Amazon is presently offering the new earphones at a discounted price of $175, but shipping will take one to three weeks.
Apple's AirPods (2nd Gen) will remain available for purchase, but at a reduced retail price of $129 instead of $199. The AirPods Pro are still the top-of-the-line device, with a full retail price of $249.
